I wasn't someone who was super interested in Data and Analytics so when I saw this module my first instinct was nahhhhhh. But after asking some seniors for MKT4K module recommendations and due to the lack of choices offered by the school I eventually took this module in Sem 2 of AY20/21. AND how glad I was that I took this mod....

I think this mod is one of my favourite marketing modules in NUS. It is not too fluffy and not too technical and I actually learnt a lot and it was so so interesting for me. Firstly, my favourite industry is the FMCG industry and this module mainly focuses on it with many case studies and examples of real world FMCG companies and products. V noice.

Next, the prof developed a simulation game that is highly similar to the real life and we were able to gain "hands on experience" and apply what we have learnt in class through the simulation. We were able to take on the roles of either manufacturers (who had multiple consumer goods brands under them) or retailers (who had to manage their stores well). It was so fun playing the game and made me feel like a real brand manager, which is one of my career aspirations. (My team did really well for this project hohoho)

Lastly, as mentioned earlier, the concepts taught in this module are so not fluffy at all and can help marketing managers drive decisions. In addition, Prof Aschok is very knowledgeable and has lots of experience as he had worked with Unilever and Nielson for many years before. Hence, he understands how things work from both brands' and market researcher's point of view, and teaches us how to make use of the data and information gathered to guide marketing decisions.

One more plus point is the midterms and finals are all MCQs/True,False/Short-answer questions hehe. AND they were open book, so I just needed to mug for one week or a few days before the exams

Good stuff aside, the project is quite high maintenance as you have to key in your decisions into the game simulation almost once every 2 weeks and thus there would be frequent project meetings. However, since the game was q fun and I grouped with my friends, I didn't really mind the effort lol.

All in all, definitely a highly recommended module from me!
